British International Motor Show 2008 ![]()
The British International Motor Show is back, bigger and brighter than ever before. And after a spell at the dreary NEC the decision to bring the show to London's ExCel seems to have paid off. Over 400,000 people attended in 2006, sealing its position as the best attended consumer show in the UK and more than half a million are expected this year. An aerial view of the British Motor Show in London. ExCel's waterfront location, proximity to London City airport and the fact that 95,000 car-hungry executives work next door at Canary Wharf have brought new life to the show too. And with excellent road and rail links the show is easy to reach from all over the south of England, and further afield too. Following the format set down in 2006 this year's event will mix traditional show floor displays with hands-on outdoor activities, plus live action entertainment and a series of music events to keep the party going into the evening. Cars remain at the core though, with Vauxhall, Ford and Lotus all lined up to debut new models. Bands like UB40 will compete at the British Motor Show Indeed, if you're into cars there is a whole summer of events to look forward to. Together with the motor show from July 23 to August 3 there is the Brooklands Double 12 at the end of June, the British Grand Prix on July 4-6 and the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 11-13. With no need to leave home soil to enjoy the best in motorsport, classic cars and the latest show-stopping debuts British car fans have a host of reasons to be looking forward to the summer. And the motor show organisers have been busy adding new features and attractions to make their event even more appealing than before. Supercars will be on display at the British Motor Show From supercars to classics to the latest in green technology, everything four-wheeled will have its place at the show. New features include the Heritage Enclosure, celebrating 50 years of the supercar. And bringing things right up to date the Autoglym Supercar Paddock will have the latest exotica on display. There will also be family-themed attractions to entertain all ages, including a new Kids Car Zone which is intended to educate as well as entertain. On a similar vein, the Greener Driving Pavilion will have interactive displays, live debates and award ceremonies for the best in eco friendly motoring. A water ski display team will compete at the British Motor Show ExCel's location on the side of the Thames opens up further exciting possibilities too. National Boat Shows will be throwing some water-borne attractions into the mix, with everything from sailing dinghies to super yachts on display. Water ski display teams will also add to the fun, performing right alongside the main show venue. Meanwhile music fans can look forward to a host of concerts by acts like UB40, Blondie, Alice Cooper, Jools Holland and others in an arena that by day hosts Honda's Dreamscape show. Gig tickets include free entry to the motor show, meaning you can check out the four-wheeled exotica before settling down and enjoying your favourite bands. The show's 12-day run and long opening hours (it's open until 9pm much of the time) mean there's no excuse for missing the action either. And with evening tickets available for just £5 if you're based in London it's easy to nip down for a couple of hours after work too. We'll see you there!
