Three new motoryachts being launched at the Southampton boat show feature Alpine entertainment systems
See them on stand J200, Berths 363, 364 and 365
Coventry, 12th September 2007 - The world’s most prominent luxury yacht manufacturer, Sunseeker, has once again chosen Alpine to provide premium quality on-board entertainment systems for its latest boats being launched at the Southampton boat show which runs from September 14 to 23. The Sunseeker Predator 52, Manhattan 52 and Manhattan 70 motoryachts will feature Alpine’s integrated audio-visual systems, giving owners a high-quality entertainment system as standard.
The Predator 52 is a high-performance motor yacht designed for high-speed cruising and as a platform for watersports, but inside the spacious saloon, with its semicircular seating plan, is a fully-integrated Alpine entertainment system. An LCD flatscreen and Alpine’s DVA-9861Ri DVD/CD head unit with surround sound works with the ergonomics of the living area, creating a cinema-sound effect. The central entertainment head unit also runs speakers into the command cockpit.
The new Manhattan 52 joins the fleet as Sunseeker’s entry-level flybridge yacht, but they feature a similarly high level of audio-visual provision. Flatscreen televisions grace all the cabins, and Alpine CDA-9883R radio/CD systems are found in all the staterooms. The CDA-9883R in the cockpit is controlled with an AOU71 remote, which features its own digital display, and is fully waterproof. The new Manhattan 70 sits at the very top of the Sunseeker flybridge range, and features the same DVA-9861Ri DVD/CD head unit surround sound system as the Predator, not only in the saloon, but also in the aft master stateroom.
In all cases, Sunseeker has worked closely with Alpine to produce near-bespoke sound and vision installations that complement the interiors of the new craft and ensure the best sound quality wherever you are on the boat. The Alpine installations confirm Sunseeker’s ongoing commitment to only providing the highest quality premium equipment on their vessels. On the road, Alpine audio systems can be found as original equipment in Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Lotus and Land-Rover cars.

Alpine’s CDA-9887 offers an impressive array of features. As the company’s top CD player, the single-DIN head unit uses a 24-bit Burr-Brown D/A converter and other leading technologies. It’s also the company’s first head unit equipped with the IMPRINT system.
The CDA-9887 supports MP3, WMA and AAC playback and is also Bluetooth and iPod ready. Its detachable faceplate features a Biolite display and that familiar Alpine look. Volume is controlled through a rotary knob while buttons flanking it and the display handle the remaining functions. Users can also use the supplied remote to access basic functions.

Just two days shy of their one-year birthday, Panasonic is introducing a couple of successors in the Strada F-Class line. Announced in Japan, the June-bound CN-HX1000D and CN-HW1000D are both destined for gaping holes in dashes and possess a 7-inch 800 x 480 resolution display, built-in Bluetooth, iPod compatibility, AM / FM tuners, digital terrestrial TV tuner, DVD / CD player and an internal hard drive for storing map data and Sade jams. The only noticeable difference is the physical size; the former is a single-DIN unit while the latter touts a double-DIN frame. These two also allow for home control, so you can lock your doors, turn the heat down and flip off the porch light from the driver’s seat. Sure sounds pleasant, if only they weren’t ¥354,900 ($3,388) apiece.

Sony is launching an in-car CD tuner and MP3 player. The Sony MEX-BT3600U is designed to be a neater way of pumping music from iPod or Walkman MP3 player to car stereo speakersUnlike other in-car MP3 player hookups which generally involve tuning in to an available FM channel, the Sony MEX-BT3600U is essentially a car stereo and CD player with a USB port to which the portable player then attaches.
The point of both FM tuner-type devices and gadgets such as this Sony in-car player is that you can enjoy your music collection without having to lug your CD collection with you.
Sony has given its in-car player a straightforward navigation menu too: a ‘Quick-BrowZer’ lets users search and select tracks stored on their MP3 player. Track and album details are shown on the tuner’s 13-segment LCD display. Read the rest of this entry »
