Pioneer AVIC-F10BT up-grade in a Porsche Cayenne with Alpine TME-680 Headrest monitors

This gentleman required a new navigation system after his Porsche Navigation unit packed in, he’d seen the Pioneer AVIC-F10BT and after going through the features with him it was decided to be the best choice. As the Porsche had their Navigation system fitted this wasn’t going to be a simple job-but we like getting our teeth into something! The screen had to be able to feed a signal to two rear headrest screens, Alpine’s excellent TME-680 package, and accept a reversing camera input, along with allowing ipod integration and Bluetooth-the AVIC-F10BT does all of these with ease! He also wanted an audio up-grade in his Cayenne. His requirements were heavy bass and a front end that would keep up-but on a “tight” budget. After demonstrating a few boxes Inphase’s excellent XTB312 was chosen to provide the bass (the most expensive pre-made box we do!) and the IPX2400 was chosen to drive the sub.

Front speakers are a 3-way set up as standard making selecting a set up a bit more difficult, but after removing the standard 8″ mid-bass drivers we found very little mounting depth making the selection of Inphase’s fabulously shallow SXT6.1c’s the obvious choice, combined with the XTC32’s and Lanzar Vibe 3-way cross overs and an IPA601 amplifier to drive them.

The amplifiers were fitted underneath the false floor in the boot, so if all the boot space is needed the box can quickly be removed and there’ll be nothing to interfere with a big load.

The only area not to have been upgraded is the standard rear speakers-which are just faded out!

Control

Everyone always says the Mazda’s are a pain to change the stereo and after a customer came into the store saying he wanted to change his stereo but it would cost him more than he wanted to spend. he had been around a few places and got quotes before coming here one place said it would take about 3 hours and cost around 150.00 labour, the other said it wouldn’t be possible to do it as there fitter wasn’t capable of  doing that car!

after a quick look at the car and a few idea’s  we set out with the Clarion VZ409E single din flip out screen and a promise to the customer that it would be in and working fully before his trip in which he was driving abroad as all the flights had been cancelled.

notice the big ugly Mazda radio and tiny little screen your supposed to be able to read, well with a few little magic words and a wave of my trim tool!

well it didnt really come out that fast but it wasn’t as hard as everyone seemed to make out now was time for the connects 2 job. first we needed a fascia which was a ct24mz07 and wiring loom which was ct20mz02. Once all the parts were in time for the radio.
