VW Polo gets JVC KW-NT3 and Aura Parking Sensors at Car Audio Centre Birmingham

Our head technician at our birmingham store wanted a naviagtion system and parking sensors for his wife’s VW Polo.

He liked the look of the JVC KW-NT3 and after I reeled off the extensive list of features including; Bluetooth, USB/Ipod, SD card, DVD, Divx, face Off and Google Maps amongst others he was sold on it! To fit it to the car we required an aerial booster and a harness adaptor.

For parking sensors we used our favourites; the Aura APS4RB. They may be the cheapest set we do, but they work flawlessly and look neat fitted in the bumper-who says you have to pay for quality!

Spot the sensors!

Renault Meganne Double Din:

Wednesday, January 12th, 2011

Some pics of a Pioneer AVH-3200BT we fitted into a 2006 Renault Meganne at the Birmingham store.

We also used the steering wheel control adaptor, CTSRN005 and CTSONYLEAD (fits both Sony and Pioneer stereos)

The AVH-3200BT also operates as a bluetooth hands free kit and ipod charge/control system so you can safely make calls and operate you ipod as well as watching DVDs.

The AVH-300BT incorporates a High Pass Filter, which allows the unit to filter the bass from the factory speakers so we fitted an Inphase USW10 under the driver’s seat to take advantage of this; the Meganne’s standard 13cm speakers will never produce bass to any decent level and playing bass through them makes them distort and gives you a “muddy” sound. Filtering it out gives you better clarity and power handling, allowing the stereo to be turned up louder and maintain integrety at these higher volumes.

VW T25 Camper Van Gets some upgrades:

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

Richard popped in looking for some upgrades to the audio in his T25 VW Camper Van, he was after good SQ on a fairly modest budget so I put together this little system for him:

Pioneer’s DEH-4200SD 50w x4, CD/MP3/WMA/AAC playback from the CD deck, USB/ipod input and SD card input and 3 pairs of 4volt preouts for the later addition of amplifiers.

Phase Linear CF130.25 13cm components, these were some NOS and quite a find-they’re something that is very rare in car audio; bi-ampable. This means that the front channels of Richard’s stereo can be used to drive the tweeters and the rear channels used to drive the mids, giving him 200w for his componets instead of the 100w he’d have got if he went for any other components. Other features include Silk dome tweeters and Carbon/Paper pulp cone for a smooth and detailed response, listed as 36Hz-32Khz!

Though the Phase Linear’s quote 36Hz as their F3 this is a bit ambitious for a 13cm so to take the stress off the drivers in the lower frequency range we fitted Inphase’s compact, but powerful, USW10 into the front foot well:

Mondeo + 2 x AW1500V + IPA2001D= Ringing Ears!

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

Darren came down to the Birmingham store after a subwoofer solution for his Mondeo hatch back and he wanted something BIG!

A quick chat about equipment and it was apparent Darren wanted to really move some air, but was on a tightish budget. Fortunately we’d got the AW1500V’s on offer, £100.00 each for 800wrms 15″ with 4ohmDVC, so £200.00 for two monster subs just left him an amp and box to budget for.

For the amp Darren couldn’t resist the IPA2001D, with 200wrms on tap at 1ohm it was perfect for the job-2000wrms of amp on 1600wrms of subs? Yup, having more power on tap then the subs will take guarantees a clean and un-clipped signal for the subs, resulting in better SQ and a longer life!

The box was going to have to be custom built for the subs to get the best out of them and so it would fit the boot, unfortunately because of the size of the subs/boot we couldn’t go for my prefered slot vented design but instead for conventional round ports, but a bit of work with the design software showed this would work just as well-Darren certainly thought so when he heard the results. One LOUD but TUNEFUL car, he just needs to sort his door speakers out and get them amped and he’ll be in audio nirvana!

As you can see this custom built enclosure was a perfect fit and still left some space for shopping!

Suzuki Swift + SXT 6.1C + XTB10A

Friday, November 19th, 2010

Mohammed had already been down to the Birmingham store and upgraded his factory stereo to the JVC KW-NT1 Navigation System and despite the obvious improvement in sound still wanted more from his front speakers and needed a serious bass injection.

The doors on the Swift are pretty shallow, just over 2.5″ of mounting depth before you hit the glass, so we needed some slim speakers to get the ball rolling. The Inphase SXT6.1c fit the bill and the decision was quickly made. Their lightweight kevlar cones are extremely rigid, lowering distortion, their chrome phase plugs ensure phase coherence throught their range and most importantly the Neodymium magnet, 50x more powerful weight for weight then ferrite, is very compact allowing fitting to the tightest tollerances.

Unfortunately it’s not only the doors suffering from space issues-the boot is pretty small too. Mohammed wanted a full and deep bass, but still wanted some boot space left for shopping so the Inphase XTB10A was chosen. For their output these subs are very compact and the built in amp saves more space as you don’t have to mount a separate one. With 1200w to play with these little brutes deliver smiles every time!
